Caught Winter People and Bon Marche at the quarter finals of the Annandale band comp tonight. Both were brilliant in their separate ways.
Winter People have a great melodic rock sound and great songwriting. Coupled with their soaring violins and Dylan the lead singer's haircut, they're definitely record-contract material, but what makes them for me is their "Fuck you, we're a rock band" breakdowns.
Juz their second guitarist just tears it apart with the angular solos and apparently he opened up his thumb and bled all over his guitar tonight, which to me just earns them more street cred.
Bon Marche (who Jez also plays for, you busy kid you) were tons of fun - amazing bass action from Andrey and just all around funking good tunes that brought smiles to dials.
Great value entertainment from the 'Dale as usual, for five measly dollars.
